When I was young I looked forward to Bonfire Night, it was exciting. There was not any organised displays, so everyone built their own bonfire in their back gardens, our parents bought the fireworks from the local shop, we baked potatoes, roasted chestnuts and my Mum made the bonfire toffee, and the fireworks were only lit on Bonfire Night. |
There was not the indiscriminate letting off of fireworks which we experience these days, lasting for weeks before and after Bonfire Night which frighten the elderly, pets and wildlife, and which causes injuries and death to all. |
